From in town auditions to Hollywood

We first met Charles at a local audition while he was a student-athlete at Kansas State. Today, he continues to inspire the next generation of performers pursuing their own dreams.

We first met Charles at a local audition while he was a student-athlete at Kansas State. Today, he continues to inspire the next generation of performers pursuing their own dreams.

Over the past 30 years, one of our favorite things has been meeting talented performers right in their own communities. Some of those auditions happen in major cities, while others take place in small towns, local studios, schools, and community spaces across the country.

One of those performers was Charles Melton. We first met Charles while he was playing football at Kansas State University and exploring opportunities in the entertainment industry. Today, audiences know him from projects including Beef (season 2), Riverdale, The Sun Is Also a Star, and May December. Charles played football at Kansas State before pursuing acting full-time.

While every journey is different, stories like Charles's remind us that big dreams often start with a simple conversation, an audition, and someone willing to take a chance on themselves.

Your story is still being written, and we're excited to meet you.

One of the things we love most about The ARTS is that you never know who is going to walk through the door. Over the years, we've met talented performers from all walks of life—many of whom simply came to an audition looking for guidance, experience, and an opportunity to grow.

One of those performers was Abbie Cobb. We first met Abbie as a young performer with a passion for acting and a willingness to learn. Since then, she has built a successful career in television and film, appearing in projects seen by audiences around the world.

While working with a group of ARTS participants during a recent workshop, Abbie shared:

"I'm constantly in disbelief that this is my life. I work on set every day with Ethan Hawke, and there are still moments when I catch myself thinking, 'Oh my gosh, this is really my life.' I always point that journey back to Kim and The ARTS."

What we love most about Abbie's story isn't the credits—it's that she still remembers where her journey began. Before the television sets, the auditions, and the opportunities, she was simply a young performer taking a chance on herself.

That's what inspires us. Not where someone ends up, but the courage it takes to begin.
